Salman Luban, a young Belarusian, was sent to the Calanca Valley by the Red Cross in 1917. In this remote area of Italian-speaking Graubünden, he found his calling – and never saw his homeland again until his death in 1954. Salman Luban's grandson sets out in search of his grandfather and a nearly lost form of medicine that, according to his genealogy, viewed the human being as a whole.

In 2023, filmmaker Taro Spirig traveled through China. He filmed himself and the people he encountered, hoping to capture something of their existence. A year later, Spirig saw footage of his late grandfather that his mother had shot. When he saw the love and grief in every frame, the director realized that this was what really mattered. The traces his grandfather left behind can be found in his mother's films.
