The Vastavirta-Klubi has been operating in Pispala, Tampere, for over 20 years. To an outsider, the club may seem like a regular, raunchy rock club, but for some reason it has a cult reputation both in Finland and abroad, and the club has received, among other things, the Tampere Cultural Achievement of the Year award. The documentary explores why this is the case and follows the club's activities over a year.
Matter of Britain is an ethnographic fantasy which documents an English country village’s performance of the Holy Grail myth. In that myth, King Arthur’s knights quest for the Holy Grail in order to heal their wasted land. The performance took place over 12 months from 2023 to 2024 in multiple locations across the parish of Mayfield, East Sussex. Over 300 members of the community took part as questing knights, angelic choirs, guiding anchorites and tempting devils. The work was supported by an Arts Council England Project Grant, the Lund Trust, High Weald AONB, East Sussex Arts Partnership, the University of Reading and the Museum of English Rural Life.
Where do I go from here is a performance arthouse-style film exploring the nostalgia of the concept of home in terms of home as a feeling rather than the architectural structure. Inspired by multiple factors resonating the concept of home, including diaspora, belonging and longing, the artist questions the idea of home through and through, along with the constant search for the idea of "home".
