Storyline
The head of the Earnshaw family brings a poor orphan boy, Heathcliff, to the estate. He lives with them, but is eventually reduced to the status of a servant. Strong feelings grow between Heathcliff and Catherine Earnshaw, but differences in social status and Catherine’s ambitions push her toward a more advantageous marriage to a wealthy man. Unable to bear the humiliation, Heathcliff disappears for several years, only to return later with money, a new status, and deep resentment.
