After a bizarre accident leaves Fransje Hermans in a wheelchair, he seems doomed to live out his days in the sluggish village of Lomark. The accident leaves him unable to move or speak, and with the exception of one functional arm, his life seems hopeless. All that changes when charismatic newcomer Joe Speedboot arrives and forms an unlikely friendship with Fransje.

Convinced that his daughter has forgotten how to laugh, a father shows up unannounced while she's living abroad and bombards her with outrageous jokes.

An enigmatic vagrant cons himself into the home life of an arrogant upper-class family, turning their lives into a psychological nightmare in the process.
